Pack-Smart Operator

Department: Operations Direct - Service Bureau
Location: North Las Vegas, NV

Job Summary:

The primary responsibilities of a Pack-Smart Operator include setting up, operating, and troubleshooting machinery to produce high-quality products. The Main Operator is also responsible for leading a team of employees to successfully meet production goals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Set up work area and machines without assistance.
  • Train general machine operators on safe and proper machine set up and operation.
  • Instruct, mentor, and lead a team of four+ employees.
  • Technical knowledge of how machines work.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, adjust settings accordingly, and perform necessary repairs.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to read and comprehend data.
  • Make camera adjustments as needed.
  • Review first article, data proofs, and other production paperwork.
  • Audit quality for operations on both sides of the running machine.
  • Make physical adjustments to the Pack-Smart machine with an emphasis on safety.
  • Once fully trained, diagnose and fix any issues that may arise with the Pack-Smart machine.
  • Record and send daily report noting any issues with the Pack-Smart machine.
  • Escalate any necessary preventive maintenance to management.
  • Responsible for the daily KPI’s.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the machines.
  • Ensure that all work instructions are followed for safety, quality, and production.
  • Perform these and other duties as assigned by Supervisor or other appropriate management personnel.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years’ experience in a high-volume and progressive manufacturing environment
  • Preferred experience on complex machinery with folder gluers with camera inspection systems (Examples include Otto Kunnecke Machines, Precision Redline Machines, Kirk Rudy Machines, Massman Automation)
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Advanced math and reading skills and must be able to read and understand work and safety instructions in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities at various stages of complexity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organizational skills combined with structured problem solving and the ability to determine root cause, containment, and corrective actions.
  • Proficient computer skills/knowledge.
  • Must be proficient in Excel.

The employee is required to stand for extended periods, walk and use hands for grasping and fine manipulation. The employee will be required to reach with hands and arms and must be able to lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds frequently and up to fifty pounds occasionally. Employees must be able to regularly push and pull loads using a pallet jack. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus and distinguish colors from one another.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in an indoor setting with variable temperature conditions. The employee will be working around moving equipment and machinery and will occasionally be required to use hazardous chemicals with appropriate, required personal protective equipment. The employee may be exposed to minimal chemical smells and paper dust. The employee must be prepared to respond to emergencies should they occur. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
